International Energy Agency: The energy crisis may accelerate the transformation of energy structure

2022-10-28

The World Energy Outlook 2022 released by the International Energy Agency on the 27th pointed out that the energy crisis has highlighted the vulnerability and unsustainability of the global energy system, or will promote countries and international organizations to take long-term measures to accelerate structural reform and profoundly change the existing energy supply system. The International Energy Agency said that the geopolitical conflict and the world economic problems had led to a huge earthquake in the traditional energy markets such as crude oil, natural gas and coal, exposing the fact that the energy market was still very fragile. The agency mentioned that in addition to taking short-term measures to protect ordinary consumers, many governments have also formulated new plans to promote energy transformation. According to the calculation of the International Energy Agency, according to the current policies of various countries, the annual global investment in clean energy is expected to exceed $2 trillion in 2030, an increase of more than 50% compared with the current. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, said that the world's energy landscape is undergoing tremendous changes. The policies introduced by governments may promote a turning point to make the global energy system cleaner, more affordable and safer. The report estimates that in 2050, the proportion of fossil fuels in the global energy structure may drop from 80% to slightly more than 60%, and the annual global carbon dioxide emissions will fall from 37 billion tons to 32 billion tons. In addition, if we want to achieve global net zero emissions by 2050, global clean energy investment needs to grow to more than $4 trillion annually by 2030. (Liu Xinshe)
