National Bureau of Statistics: The relative income gap between urban and rural residents in China has continued to narrow over the past 10 years

The series of reports on economic and social development achievements since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China released by the National Bureau of Statistics on November 11 showed that in 2021, the per capita disposable income of residents across the country will be 35128 yuan, an increase of 18618 yuan over 2012, with an average annual nominal growth of 8.8%, and an average annual real growth of 6.6% after deducting price factors. Among them, the ratio of per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in 2021 is 2.50 (rural residents' income=1), 0.38 lower than that in 2012, and the relative income gap between urban and rural residents continues to narrow. The report shows that, with the in-depth promotion of various poverty alleviation policies and rural revitalization strategies, the per capita disposable income of rural residents continues to grow faster than that of urban residents. In 2021, the per capita disposable income of urban residents will be 47412 yuan, an increase of 96.5% over 2012; The per capita disposable income of rural residents was 18931 yuan, an increase of 125.7% over 2012. From 2013 to 2021, the average annual income of rural residents will increase 1.7 percentage points faster than that of urban residents. The income of residents in the central and western regions grew rapidly, and the relative income gap between regions continued to narrow. Compared with 2012, in 2021, the per capita disposable income of residents in the eastern, central, western and northeastern regions will increase by 110.1%, 116.2%, 123.5% and 89.5% respectively, with an average annual growth of 8.6%, 8.9%, 9.3% and 7.4%. The average annual growth of residents' income in the western region is the fastest, followed by that in the central region. According to the report, in general, over the past 10 years, China's resident income has maintained a rapid growth, which has led to the continuous improvement of consumption level and consumption capacity. In 2021, the per capita consumption expenditure of the national residents will be 24100 yuan, an increase of 12046 yuan over 2012, with an average annual nominal growth of 8%.
