With the global epidemic becoming clearer and countries relaxing entry restrictions, the aviation industry has regained its vitality. Cathay Pacific signed a three-year cooperation agreement with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to jointly organize Cathay Pacific's new comprehensive pilot trainee training program. It is the first time that aviation theory courses are taught by local institutions to cultivate local aviation talents. Cathay Pacific's chief executive, Tang Jianrong, expects to train more than 1000 local pilot trainees by 2025. A trainee pilot said that the epidemic would always pass and he was confident in the future development of aviation. Chen Ziying, a trainee pilot, graduated from the University of science and technology in mechanical engineering in 2019. Originally ignorant of aviation, when she was 14 years old, the TV drama "soaring into the clouds" was popular, which made her have a great interest in aviation, so she signed up for the summer camp of the Hong Kong Youth League. During the event, she boarded the "super Jaguar helicopter" of the flight service team and first came into contact with aviation. "The feeling in the air is unforgettable and yearning." Since then, Chen Ziying has determined to become a pilot, participated in aviation certificate courses large and small, and experienced and learned airplane driving in foreign countries at his own expense. "In addition to the feeling of flying freely in the air, I also like to feel the happiness and success of successfully delivering guests to their destinations." She believes that the comprehensive pilot trainee training program is an excellent opportunity for her to realize her ideal. Xu Lingfeng, another trainee pilot who simulated flying 747-8 aircraft, is a graduate of the property management department of PolyU. Because he read a book written by a local pilot during his university years, he gradually developed interest and vision for aviation when the pilot shared his life. He piloted Boeing 747-8 aircraft in the simulation cockpit of Cathay Pacific City in 2016, and took an aviation course in Vancouver in 2017. He got a 10 hour flight experience and affirmed his dream. "It's like entering another space to control himself to fly freely in the air. This feeling is fascinating." Unlike the previous pilot training courses, which required full training in foreign countries, the new courses jointly organized by Cathay Pacific and PolyU were partly taught in Hong Kong. Xu Lingfeng believes that the new arrangements can enable trainees to spend more time with their families and friends, strike a balance between work and life, and facilitate discussion with classmates. The first phase of the internship program was launched in March this year, with a total of 24 trainee pilots participating. The 55 to 60 week course includes three stages of training, namely theoretical training, simulation driving training and flight training. PolyU offers 150 working days of theoretical courses, including at least 750 hours of teaching and examinations; After successfully completing the course, the qualified trainees will go to overseas for flight training, and finally return to Hong Kong to receive multiple groups of simulated cockpit training in Cathay Pacific City. Secretary for transport and logistics, Mr Lam Sai hung, attended the signing ceremony of cooperation between Cathay Pacific and PolyU yesterday. In his speech, he said that the outline of the 14th five year plan and the outline of the development plan for the Greater Bay area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao clearly support the consolidation of Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub. After the epidemic situation stabilizes, it is believed that the aviation industry will usher in a strong one? The recovery has brought great development potential. special zone
