Geng Shuang said that it is worrisome that the zaborore nuclear power station is still under shelling in recent days. Although the shelling has not posed a direct threat to the safety of the nuclear power plant, as the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency Grossi said, this situation may change at any time. There is no room for error in the safety and security of nuclear facilities. Any accident may lead to a serious nuclear accident, with irreversible consequences for the ecological environment and public health of Ukraine and surrounding countries. China once again calls on the parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint, strictly abide by relevant international laws, earnestly implement the seven pillar principles put forward by Grossi, avoid taking actions that endanger nuclear safety and security, and minimize the risk of accidents. Geng Shuang said that China has always supported the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in performing its safeguards duties in strict accordance with its mandate and playing an active role in promoting nuclear safety and security. Under the current situation, it is necessary for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to conduct on-the-spot investigation at the zaborore nuclear power station as soon as possible to conduct professional technical assessment on the safety and security of nuclear facilities. China has noted that both Russia and Ukraine have made positive statements on the visit. It is hoped that all parties concerned will remove political obstacles, strengthen communication and coordination, adhere to issue orientation, reach an agreement on the time and details of the visit as soon as possible, and enable the IAEA delegation to travel in a timely manner. In dealing with the safety and security of nuclear facilities, we must adhere to scientific rationality, the spirit of humanity, and communication and cooperation. We should transcend political positions, hostile differences, and military considerations. We must never allow the tragedies of the Chernobyl nuclear accident and the Fukushima nuclear accident to repeat. Geng Shuang said that in order to fundamentally eliminate the nuclear safety risks of the zaporoje nuclear power station, the international community must promote the relaxation and cooling of the situation in a responsible manner, work hard on diplomatic efforts and political solutions, guide the parties to return to dialogue and negotiations, and achieve a ceasefire and cessation of war at an early date.
