2022-07-07

KT, the second largest mobile operator in South Korea, has invested 30billion won (about 154million yuan, 23million US dollars) in rebellions, a Korean local artificial intelligence (AI) chip startup, this week. This is also KT's second strategic investment in the AI field after establishing a partnership with Korean AI infrastructure startup Moreh last year. Founded in September 2020, rebellions has an experienced highly educated team. According to the information on the official website, more than one third of the members have doctoral degrees, and there are also experienced technical talents from Samsung and SK Hynix. They also cooperate with professionals in many fields, such as Intel, arm, Samsung America, etc. KT said that it plans to fully enter the AI semiconductor field through cooperation with two start-ups. At present, this field is dominated by American chip manufacturer NVIDIA worldwide. Through cooperation, KT plans to build a large-scale GPU farm within this year and integrate proprietary AI semiconductors developed using ultra large-scale AI computing technology.
