The handover ceremony of food aid materials provided by the Chinese government to Uganda was held at the office of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Uganda on the 14th. In February this year, the Chinese government signed an agreement with the WFP to provide food aid to Uganda. The handover aid was used to support the food nutrition program in the northeast of Uganda by the food department in the area of primary school students in COVID-19. Abdirahman megag, WFP representative in Uganda, praised China's support for WFP projects at the handover ceremony. He said that education is an important way for vulnerable communities to repair and rebuild their livelihoods. China's donation enables WFP to insist on providing food for school children when schools are closed, and encourage students to continue to go to school through the nutritious meal project. Grace kuyukvini, Minister of state for Northern Affairs of the prime minister's office of Uganda, said that this aid project is crucial to help the hungry people facing food security problems in Karamoja region. Zhang Lizhong, Chinese ambassador to Uganda, said that the project has set a good example for the cooperation and partnership between China, Uganda and international organizations in strengthening food security. China is committed to supporting Uganda's future workforce, attaches importance to cooperation with WFP, and will further explore new measures in the field of poverty reduction and food security with Uganda, so as to facilitate the Ukrainian government to promote socio-economic transformation and improve the well-being of the Ukrainian people. He also sent a message to local students to study hard without interrupting their studies and contribute to the development of their country and hometown. In 2017, the Chinese government provided food aid to the Ukrainian government through the WFP office in Uganda, benefiting more than 200000 people, most of them school children in Karamoja.
