Permanent representative of China to the United Nations: the level of Chinese people's enjoyment of human rights has constantly reached a new level

2021-12-10

Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, delivered a speech on world human rights day on September 9, pointing out that the level of Chinese people's enjoyment of human rights has constantly reached a new level and has also made positive contributions to promoting the cause of world human rights. He said that December 10 is world human rights day, and this year's theme is "equality for all". Protecting human rights and promoting equality is the common ideal of all mankind and the diligent pursuit of the Chinese people. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people have made arduous explorations and struggles to strive for, respect, protect and develop human rights. We adhere to people's democracy. The 1.4 billion Chinese people truly become the masters of the country, society and their own destiny. They enjoy the broadest, truest and most effective democracy in the whole process of democracy. We have historically solved the problem of absolute poverty and achieved the poverty reduction goal of the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development 10 years ahead of schedule. Adhering to the people first and life first, we have made major strategic achievements in epidemic prevention and control, and provided more than 1.85 billion doses of new crown vaccine to more than 120 countries and international organizations, ranking first in the world. We are proud that the Chinese people's enjoyment of human rights has constantly reached a new level and made positive contributions to promoting the cause of human rights in the world. The promotion and protection of human rights is a dynamic process. Today's world faces many severe challenges. We must continue to make unremitting efforts for the goal of equality for all. He said that to achieve equality for all, we must first ensure the fair distribution of vaccines. To achieve equality for all, we must resolutely eliminate racism and racial discrimination. To achieve equality for all, we should respect the right of people of all countries to independently choose the path of development. Human rights are universal, but the ways to realize human rights are diverse, and the suitable is the best. All countries should strengthen exchanges and mutual learning, and find their own path of human rights development in accordance with their national conditions and people's needs. Numerous examples have repeatedly proved that the externally imposed model of democracy and human rights does not work. To achieve equality for all, we must abandon politicization and double standards. Human rights and democracy are not the patents of a few countries, nor are they the tools to flaunt themselves, divide camps and provoke a new cold war. Interfering in the internal affairs of other countries under the banner of human rights and democracy, provoking confrontational conflicts and indiscriminately imposing unilateral sanctions are the greatest trampling and destruction of human rights and democracy.
