"Renewal" of Sino Japanese Dunhuang cooperation

On the afternoon of June 6, Dunhuang Research Institute and Tokyo University of the arts held an online exchange activity to review the cooperation between China and Japan in the field of Dunhuang Cultural Relics Protection and research over the past 30 years, and issued a joint declaration. During the activity, experts and scholars from the two institutions discussed the themes of art and cultural relics protection. According to the joint declaration, after the epidemic, the two sides will restart exchanges and cooperation, jointly hold academic activities and exhibitions, and continue to jointly train talents. Su Bomin, President of Dunhuang Research Institute, introduced that since the 1980s, the two institutions have carried out a number of cooperation in Dunhuang studies, art copying research, grotto archaeology, cultural relics protection and so on. Over the past 30 years, more than 50 researchers of Dunhuang Research Institute have gone to Tokyo University of the arts to carry out research and study for 1 to 3 years, and become academic backbone after returning home. At the same time, nearly 100 students from Tokyo University of art have come to Dunhuang for study and visit. "The cooperation with Tokyo University of the arts is one of the longest lasting, most talented and most successful examples of many international cooperation between Dunhuang Research Institute. The cooperation between the two sides has made positive contributions to promoting cultural exchanges between China and Japan." Su Bomin said. President Ze Heshu of Tokyo University of the arts expects that after the epidemic, researchers, teachers and students of the two institutions can resume exchanges and cooperation to jointly protect and promote human cultural heritage. Dunhuang, located at the throat of the Silk Road, is a place where multiple civilizations meet. As early as the 1950s, Dunhuang exhibition went abroad and became the forefront of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. At present, nearly 20 countries and regions have held Dunhuang art exhibitions. (outlook new era)
