Sustainable transportation contributes to sustainable development

2021-10-18

From October 14 to 16, the second United Nations Global Conference on sustainable transportation was held in Beijing. With the theme of "sustainable transportation and sustainable development", the conference organized 14 activities, including plenary meeting, Ministerial Forum, theme meeting, science and technology innovation forum and entrepreneur forum. More than 130 ministers of transportation, entrepreneur representatives and heads of international organizations from people's livelihood, green development, safe development, connectivity Dialogue was held in response to the epidemic and economic recovery. The Beijing Declaration, the outcome document issued by the conference, puts forward action initiatives to strengthen transportation cooperation, which provides an action framework for the implementation of transportation related goals in the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development. Connectivity promotes the improvement of economy and people's livelihood President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the conference. He stressed: "at present, the superposition of the hundred years' change and the epidemic situation in the 21st century poses a serious challenge to the development of the world economy and the improvement of the people's livelihood. We must conform to the general trend of world development and promote global transport cooperation, and write a new chapter in the links of infrastructure, trade and investment, and communication between civilizations." Representatives from all walks of life at home and abroad particularly stressed the importance of transportation in the development of economy and people's livelihood, and called on all parties to pay more attention to the development of sustainable transportation. China's one belt, one road minister, Li Xiaopeng, said that China is ready to push forward the "global development initiative" as soon as possible and continue to promote the construction of a "high quality and one belt" road to make the contribution to accelerate the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda for 2030, and to benefit the people of all countries. Make unremitting efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind. One belt, one road, is the most important platform for promoting sustainable transportation in China. The 19 countries are responsible for signing 22 bilateral and multilateral intergovernmental agreements on road transport facilitation. At present, more than 40000 trains have been operated between China and Europe, reaching more than 170 cities in 23 countries in Europe, which has effectively promoted connectivity among countries. Bill halkias, President of the International Road Federation, said that sustainable transportation includes four connotations - inclusiveness, effectiveness, safety and mobility. He suggested that countries improve facilities and expand networks to provide people with more feasible, reliable and affordable transportation solutions by mobilizing social capital, encouraging people's participation and strengthening sectoral cooperation. Ismahan eloafi, chief scientist of FAO, believes that perfect rural transportation infrastructure can realize the connection between agricultural production land and market and between producers and consumers, so as to improve farmers' production and living conditions and income and promote the development of rural areas. She called on all parties to take action, reach scientific initiatives in transportation and agricultural cooperation, and gather all forces to promote the construction of sustainable rural transportation and contribute to global poverty reduction. Build a low-carbon transportation system Transportation is a basic, leading and strategic industry and an important service industry of the national economy. It is also an important factor affecting global sustainable development. The Beijing declaration pointed out that about 1 / 4 of global greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation. If it is not properly handled, it is expected that emissions will increase significantly and further exacerbate climate change. Participants believed that low-carbon is the only way for sustainable transportation development. "According to the data of the International Energy Agency, in 2020, transportation is the second largest field in global carbon emissions after energy power generation and heating, and one of the most difficult fields to reduce carbon emissions." Wang Wei, director of the Institute of market economy of the development research center of the State Council, said that the international community should take transportation as a key field and an important starting point for sustainable development, Give full play to the comparative advantages of various transportation modes, share the experience of green travel development, build a multi-level new urban travel system, strengthen the international industrial chain coordination of low-carbon transportation technologies such as new energy vehicles, and jointly explore the road of green transportation development. In the special exhibition area of Beijing sustainable transportation development in the conference venue, four concept shared bicycles with novel shapes attracted the attention of many people. It is reported that these shared bicycles are powered by solar panels, which is not only green and environmentally friendly, but also more accurate positioning, which helps to solve the problem of disorderly parking of bicycles. United Nations Secretary General Guterres said that promoting sustainable transportation is of great significance for implementing the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development and achieving global carbon neutrality in 2050. To this end, he put forward a number of initiatives, such as accelerating the decarbonization rate in the transportation field and advocating that people give priority to green travel modes. Lin Jize, Secretary General of the international maritime organization, believes that marine transportation covers 90% of the global freight volume, which is very important to achieve the goal of sustainable development. Facing the challenge of climate change, IMO will continue to promote the introduction of binding policies worldwide, formulate industry norms applicable to all maritime practitioners, increase the construction of sustainable infrastructure, and ensure that investment and financing and other tools support the marine industry to achieve low-carbon development. UN assistant secretary general Hart said that the international community should pay attention to the needs of less developed countries and regions in sustainable transportation development, help developing countries realize transportation mode transformation by using clean energy and innovative technologies, and help build a low-carbon transportation system. New technologies bring traffic changes 5g, big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence and other new technologies are deeply integrated with the transportation industry, so that people can enjoy their travel and things can flow smoothly. An interactive experience area was set up at the venue of the conference to display China's latest achievements in the field of sustainable transportation such as smart high-speed rail, automatic driving, smart port, smart airport and smart post office. In the 5g smart port exhibition area of China Mobile, the live video picture of 5g smart port built by China Mobile at Xiamen ocean terminal is playing on the big screen: unmanned trucks are shuttling and loading goods on the terminal in an orderly manner, 5g port machinery remote control and 5g shore bridge remote control are unloading containers from large ocean transport ships... With the help of 5g technology, Using differential high-precision positioning and multi-sensor front fusion technology, through independent intelligent driving computing platform and automatic driving solution, the unmanned truck can automatically identify and avoid obstacles, carry out accurate fixed-point loading and unloading operation, and realize unmanned cargo loading and unloading in the whole port terminal. In their speeches, many participants stressed the important role of using technical means to strengthen connectivity in achieving sustainable transportation. The Minister of transportation of Tajikistan, azim ibrosim, said that the use of digital technology and the implementation of technological innovation will help promote sustainable transportation development. Artificial intelligence is very important to the whole transportation industry. Countries should focus on the development of new technologies and use intelligent management system to promote the development of transportation linkage. China's attempt to integrate new technology and transportation industry has attracted attention. The digital, intelligent and green development of new energy vehicles will not only contribute to sustainable transportation development, but also contribute to economic recovery. According to the report on China's sustainable transportation development issued by the Academy of Sciences of the Ministry of transport of China, by the end of 2020, the number of urban public transport, cruise taxis and urban logistics distribution new energy vehicles in China had reached 466000, 132000 and 430000 respectively, and the promotion and application of new energy equipment and facilities continued to accelerate. Peter Newman, a professor at Perth Curtin University in Australia, said that the application of clean energy such as solar energy and hydrogen energy, as well as the transformation of new technologies such as new energy batteries and electric travel, are bringing new ways of economic growth. China is the world's leading technology in the field of electric travel. Many countries are cooperating with China in technological innovation and jointly developing new tram and other transportation projects. It is expected that China's sustainable vehicles will be applied in more and more countries. (outlook new era)
