Six universities in Hong Kong make it onto the global subject rankings

The Times Higher Education in the UK recently released the 2025 World University Subject Rankings, which include the University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Baptist University, with multiple disciplines ranking among the top 100 globally. The rating indicators of this ranking cover five categories: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry, to evaluate the performance of global universities in 11 subject areas. Among them, the University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and City University of Hong Kong, these five schools have a total of 38 disciplines ranked among the world's top 100 in 11 subject areas. In the field of education, the University of Hong Kong is ranked 6th in the world, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong is ranked 11th in the world, ranking first and fourth in Asia respectively. In the field of medicine and health, the University of Hong Kong ranks 21st, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong has entered the global top 25 for the first time, ranking 24th, up 13 places from last year. As for the field of social sciences, there are four universities in Hong Kong that rank among the top 100 in the world, namely the University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In terms of engineering, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology ranks 33rd globally and first in Hong Kong. In addition, the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings released in October last year have recently been updated, with City University of Hong Kong rising from 80th to 78th place. The principal of the school, Mei Yanchang, stated that the school will continue to support the teaching and research team in promoting cutting-edge research, promoting industry university research cooperation, creating synergies, and bringing positive impacts to society. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology stated that it will continue to strive for excellence in teaching, industry, and research, and is committed to making contributions to society. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University stated that it will continue to strengthen its connections and cooperation with partners around the world in the future, and strive to promote world leading research and innovation. In his latest policy address, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam proposed that the government will make every effort to promote Hong Kong as an international hub for tertiary education, cultivate future talents, and promote the "Study in Hong Kong" brand globally, including attracting more overseas students to study in Hong Kong through scholarships and other means.
