The 2025 Asian Winter Games will open on February 7th in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. On January 24th, the mobilization meeting for the establishment of the Chinese sports delegation for this year's Asian Winter Games was held in Beijing. The Chinese sports delegation participating in this competition consists of 257 people, including 170 athletes, who will compete in all 6 major events and 64 minor events, striving to achieve both sports results and spiritual civilization. This year's Asian Winter Games is the third time that China has hosted the Asian Winter Games after Harbin in 1996 and Changchun in 2007. It is also the first time in three years that China has hosted an international winter sports competition after the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. More than 1270 athletes from 34 countries and regions in Asia are expected to register for the competition. According to the delegation leader and Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Zhou Jinqiang, the average age of the 170 athletes in the delegation is 23 years old. Among them, 147 are participating in the Asian Winter Games for the first time, and 23 have participated in the Asian Winter Games before. Women's ice hockey team member Yu Baiwei is about to participate in the Asian Winter Games for the fourth time. Among all athletes, 48 participated in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, including Winter Olympics champions Gao Tingyu, Fan Kexin, Liu Shaoang, Xu Mengtao, Gu Ailing, Qi Guangpu, and others. For Chinese ice and snow athletes, this Asian Winter Games is an important training event before the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics, and also an important test of training and preparation. Zhou Jinqiang stated that the Chinese sports delegation will carry forward the Olympic spirit, promote the Chinese sports spirit and the Beijing Winter Olympics spirit, and strive to achieve both sports performance and spiritual civilization. "At the same time, we will accumulate experience and train our team for the preparation of the Milan Winter Olympics, discover and cultivate new talents to enhance the competitiveness of ice and snow events, enhance friendship among Asian countries and regions, and showcase China's national image of openness, inclusiveness, unity, progress, and win-win cooperation in the new era," he said.
