Intangible Cultural Heritage is priceless and well protected

The footsteps of the Spring Festival are approaching, and various intangible cultural heritage festivals are also lively around the world. At the scene of the 8th Inner Mongolia Intangible Cultural Heritage New Year Festival, the inheritors of intangible cultural heritage "show their unique skills", and a wide range of intangible cultural heritage products such as embroidery, Paper Cuttings, lanterns, etc. Citizens and tourists can also participate in the "traditional handicraft class" to feel the charm of intangible cultural heritage at their fingertips. Adapting to the times and integrating into daily life is a manifestation of the vigorous vitality of intangible cultural heritage. Compared to the ubiquitous intangible cultural heritage elements both online and offline, some key changes may be more able to trigger people's summary and reflection on the protection of intangible cultural heritage. Previously, the traditional spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery techniques of the Qiang and Li ethnic groups, as well as the traditional construction techniques of Chinese wooden arch bridges, passed the evaluation and were transferred from the list of urgently needed intangible cultural heritage to the list of representative works of human intangible cultural heritage. 'Transferring to a list' means that a certain intangible cultural heritage has been protected, developed, and strengthened, with its survival continuously enhanced, and is no longer on the brink of extinction. This is the first formal implementation of the transfer procedure under the framework of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, reflecting the international community's recognition of the effectiveness of China's intangible cultural heritage protection work. Some scholars lamented, 'No era, no nation can be so concerned about the protection of intangible cultural heritage and consider it in their cultural strategy.'. The judgment of experts, the perception of the public, intuitive numbers, and impressive achievements cross confirm the excellent practices and achievements of China's systematic protection of intangible cultural heritage. 44 projects have been included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List and Register, ranking first in the world in total; The Intangible Cultural Heritage Law has been promulgated and implemented, and 31 provinces (regions, municipalities) have issued regulations on the protection of intangible cultural heritage, making the legal network for intangible cultural heritage protection increasingly dense. More than 90000 representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage have been recognized at the national, provincial, municipal, and county levels, and over 100000 representative projects of intangible cultural heritage have been identified at all levels. The system for protecting and inheriting intangible cultural heritage is becoming increasingly sound. In the more than 20 years since joining the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, China has revitalized intangible cultural heritage through its actions and commitments, and has continuously contributed Chinese wisdom and solutions to relevant work in various countries. Intangible cultural heritage is priceless and well protected. Behind intangible cultural heritage lies a profound historical and cultural heritage, which is tied to the customs and emotions of different regions and people. It is important to do a good job in the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage, and to continue the aesthetic taste and spiritual connotation deeply embedded in it, not only preserving its "form", but also passing on its "soul". Take Li brocade, which is as radiant as clouds, for example. Each piece of work needs to go through four steps of spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery, taking at least three to four months. Complex reverse and double-sided weaving will take even longer. This art, polished over time, tests patience and embodies ingenuity. Not only should we inherit the skills themselves, but we should also carry forward the diligent wisdom, innovative temperament, and craftsmanship spirit between the warp and weft threads. The protection of intangible cultural heritage should not only reflect people and objects, but also life. Intangible cultural heritage, rooted in practical soil and embedded in daily life, is not a static cultural symbol, but a living cultural organism. As an annual traditional New Year of the Qiang ethnic group in China, the Qiang New Year combines history, singing and dancing, and cuisine. Establishing a national level Qiang cultural ecological protection zone to protect Qiang culture as an organic whole has solidified the natural, cultural, and social foundations for the authentic transmission of Qiang New Year customs, and promoted the dynamic inheritance of Qiang culture through singing and dancing. When Li brocade becomes a "happiness brocade" that drives local Li ethnic groups to increase employment and income, when Qiang Nian transforms into an "accelerator" to promote cultural and ecological tourism and rural characteristic tourism, and when the "concerto" of cultural and natural ecological protection is played on the wooden arch bridge, intangible cultural heritage bears fruitful results in "revitalization", depicting a moving scene of the integration and coexistence of ancient culture and modern life. Each item of intangible cultural heritage is a crystallization of the wisdom of the Chinese nation and a vivid witness to the continuous inheritance of Chinese civilization. Whether it is the "transfer of the list", the "going global" and "shining" of China's intangible cultural heritage, or the acceleration of intangible cultural heritage becoming an important part of people's better lives, these are not the end points, but a new starting point for inheritance and protection. Protecting the spark of civilization, promoting sustainable cultural heritage, constantly polishing the intangible cultural heritage as the "golden calling card" of Chinese civilization, enhancing the visibility of intangible cultural heritage as a whole, and allowing it to shine with more brilliance. The road is long and arduous, but the journey is approaching. (New Society)
