5G-A and Quantum Industry 2025 will press the 'accelerator button'

2025-01-17

In 2024, China's information and communication industry has achieved a series of results and achieved high-quality development. Looking ahead to 2025, key areas such as 5G-A and quantum technology will be identified, and related industries will press the accelerator button. The quantum industry is gradually entering a period of rapid development, and the future industry represents the direction of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation. According to the plan previously disclosed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other departments, China will focus on humanoid robots, brain computer interfaces, meta universe, the next generation Internet, 6G, quantum technology, atomic manufacturing, deep-sea aerospace development and other fields to build a number of business incubators in the next step. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology once again proposed in deploying the 2025 tasks that in order to cultivate and strengthen emerging and future industries, the future industry innovation task will be launched in 2025, and innovative development policies in the fields of biomanufacturing, quantum technology, embodied intelligence, atomic level manufacturing, etc. will be formulated and introduced. Industry insiders analyze that quantum technology has become a research hotspot in the global technology field. With the advancement of technology and the expansion of application scope, it is expected that in the coming years, more products and services based on quantum technology will enter the market, including but not limited to quantum encrypted communication, quantum cloud computing services, and specialized solutions for specific industries. According to a research report by CITIC Securities, the vigorous promotion of policies has accelerated the landing of the quantum technology industry, with broad prospects for commercialization in the future. Among them, quantum computing can empower the field of computing power, and in the long run, it may break through the limitations of AI computing power. The commercial landing slope is long and the snow is thick, and the gap between China and foreign countries continues to narrow; Quantum communication and quantum precision measurement technology are relatively mature, and the development path is diverse. According to data released by ICV, a global cutting-edge technology consulting company, the global quantum industry is expected to reach a scale of $4.7 billion by 2023, with an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 44.8% from 2023 to 2028. Benefiting from the technological progress of general quantum computers and the widespread application of specialized quantum computers in specific fields, the total market size of the quantum computing industry is expected to reach $811.7 billion by 2035. In recent years, the quantum industry has gradually entered a period of rapid development, and European and American technology companies have increased their research and development investment and application expansion in the field of quantum computing technology. A paper published in the journal Nature recently showed that Google's latest generation quantum chip has achieved a breakthrough in error correction capability, which is to suppress errors below a critical threshold. This quantum error correction function is considered a necessary condition for achieving practical applications in future quantum computing. After the performance expansion of this chip, it may be able to meet the computational requirements of large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computing. China has also made significant progress in the construction, operation and maintenance services, and network application development of quantum communication networks. According to data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China has built over 10000 kilometers of quantum communication backbone networks, covering multiple provinces across the country, providing valuable experience for the commercialization of global quantum communication technology. In addition, the reporter found that among A-share listed companies, Guodun Quantum, Hexin Instruments, Dianke Network Security, Jida Zhengyuan, Geer Software, Guoxin Technology, Zhejiang Oriental, Hengtong Optoelectronics, etc. have all laid out their quantum technology tracks. The evolution of 5G-A technology has given rise to more new opportunities. By 2025, "new" will become the "main tone" for the high-quality development of the information and communication industry. According to the deployment of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, by 2025, we will improve the policies and measures for the development of "dual gigabit" networks, pilot the deployment of 10 gigabit optical networks, strive to build more than 4.5 million 5G base stations, and promote the innovative development of 5G-A and 6G technologies. 5G-A, also known as 5.5G, is an evolving technology from 5G to 6G. Compared to 5G, the evolution of 5G has the characteristics of higher speed, larger connectivity, and lower latency. By introducing technologies such as integrated sensing and artificial intelligence, it can better match applications such as vehicle networking, high-end manufacturing, low altitude flight, full scene perception, and large models. CCID predicts that during the 15th Five Year Plan period, the number of 5G-A users in China will approach 1.3 billion, accounting for over 50% of the total global 5G-A users, and network coverage will achieve a dual leap in depth and breadth. Galaxy Securities believes that with the gradual increase in attention, 5G-A is also vigorously expanding new application scenarios, which will drive the rapid development of the base station industry chain. Key links such as antennas, filters, power amplifiers, and PCBs are expected to usher in new opportunities. Not long ago, Beijing Unicom and Huawei jointly released the 5G-A scale three-dimensional smart network in Beijing. The network has achieved continuous 5G-A coverage in areas such as the Fourth Ring Road and the city sub center, with an effective rate of over 85%, providing strong network capability support for immersive video, ultra high definition live streaming, cloud gaming and other businesses. It is particularly worth mentioning that the integration of 5G-A and humanoid robots has become necessary and has demonstrated certain advantages: on the one hand, humanoid robots need cameras that can obtain depth information to perceive the environment, while 5G-A can provide high-speed upstream connections to the cloud; On the other hand, the large uplink and low latency of 5G-A can support motion capture training for humanoid robots. At the same time, the passive IoT of 5G-A also establishes a high-precision virtual environment for virtual training of humanoid robots. It is reported that Huawei will conduct 5G-A network environment testing for humanoid robots, create a network layout plan that is conducive to humanoid robots, and explore the forefront of "5G-A+humanoid robots" to conduct in-depth research on AI scene innovation for humanoid robots. Supported by 5G-A, various regions have begun to focus on the humanoid robot industry. In order to seize the development opportunities of the embodied intelligent robot industry, Beijing officially released the "Action Plan for Building a Global First Class Embodied Intelligent Robot Industry New City in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone (2024-2026)" in August 2024. The plan is divided into two steps, aiming to build Beijing Yizhuang into a leading and internationally renowned demonstration new city for embodied intelligent robot industry. Shanghai also proposed in the "Shanghai 5G-A Application Enabling" Sailing on the Sea "Upgrade Action Plan (2024-2026)" issued by Shanghai to explore the preset 5G module in humanoid robots, strengthen the collaborative adaptation capability of humanoid robots and 5G industrial Internet, and promote the large-scale application of humanoid robots with 5G communication capabilities in high-end manufacturing scenes and consumer service scenes. The industry believes that the technological evolution of 5G-A has given rise to a large number of new application scenarios, thereby bringing more market opportunities. For example, in the recent hot low altitude economy, 5G-A is one of the technologies that has helped accelerate its takeoff. (New Society)
