The reporter learned from the Space Application Engineering and Technology Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that the seventh batch of space science experiment samples of the China Space Station returned smoothly with the Shenzhou 18 manned spacecraft return capsule on November 4. It is reported that there are a total of 55 scientific experiment samples involved in the field of space life science, space materials science, microgravity combustion science, etc., with a total weight of about 34.6 kilograms. Among them, the life type experimental samples have been transferred to Beijing and delivered to scientists on the morning of the 4th. The material and combustion type experimental samples will be transported to Beijing with the return capsule of the Shenzhou 18 manned spacecraft. The samples for life experiments include 24 species such as zebrafish culture medium, amino acids, oligopeptides, methanogenic archaea, and radiation resistant microorganisms. In the future, researchers will focus on studying the material cycling mechanisms of aquatic ecosystems in space environments, the adaptability of anaerobic archaea to extraterrestrial environments, the survival limits and tolerance assessments of extreme environmental microorganisms, and exploring the possibility of interstellar transmission of life on Earth. The material experimental samples include 30 types such as high-temperature refractory niobium alloy, composite lubricating materials, optical fibers, and optical thin films. Researchers will focus on studying the effects of gravity on material growth, composition segregation, solidification defects, and performance, and promote the space applications of long-life space lubricants, neutron shielding materials for precision electronic devices, and porous metal materials for sound and heat insulation. The combustion type experimental sample for this descent is a nano particle material synthesized based on methane combustion. Scientists will conduct analyses on particle size, morphology, and lattice structure to assist in the development of key particle materials related to gas-phase synthesis in extraterrestrial environments.
