How are the sleep and exercise habits of Chinese teenagers currently? What are the behaviors that harm health? What is the mental health status? Recently, the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Social Sciences Academic Press jointly released two research reports, "Research on Chinese Adolescent Health Behavior: Analysis of Survey Data Based on 13 Provinces" and "Research on Chinese Adolescent Health Behavior: Analysis of Survey Data Based on Ten Provinces and Cities", which answered these questions. "The report adopts the research model of 'World Health Organization - Healthy Behaviors of School aged Children', and carries out relevant questionnaire research in combination with China's national conditions and the health status of adolescents. The research team carried out research in 13 provinces and cities in China in 2010 and 10 provinces and cities in China in 2020, forming two research reports." Zhang Shuhui, one of the book's editors, and the standing member of the Party Committee and vice president of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, introduced. "According to the survey results in 2020, in terms of health-related behaviors, China's adolescents are generally in good condition, but some students still have problems such as irregular diet, unbalanced nutrition, insufficient time and intensity of physical exercise, less leisure time, monotonous activity content, low sleep quality, insufficient sleep time, etc." said Zhou Huazhen, chief editor of the book and director of the University Values and Health Education Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In terms of sleep, a 2020 survey showed that the average sleep time of Chinese teenagers at night is 7.7 hours, which is less than the general minimum standard of 8 hours; The average sleep time on rest nights is 9.4 hours, which is within a reasonable range. In addition, the proportion of teenagers in China who go to bed late is relatively high, with 6.3% of them sleeping at or after midnight. The problem of insufficient sleep is quite prominent. In terms of physical exercise, a survey conducted in 2020 found that the average number of days for Chinese teenagers to participate in physical exercise exceeding 1 hour per week is 2.5 days, and the average number of days for vigorous exercise per month is 2.8 days. Compared with 2010, the participation of young people in physical exercise in China has improved, and the overall level is above average. However, about 10% of teenagers still never exercise and have a longer sedentary time such as surfing the internet and doing homework, making them more likely to have poor physical health. Research has pointed out that the mental health and social adaptation issues of adolescents urgently need to be addressed. According to survey data from 2020, about 20% of adolescents in China are in a negative psychological state, with poor life satisfaction and social adaptability, and problems in social interaction, self-confidence, self-esteem, and other aspects; More than 60% of teenagers have experienced feelings of depression, irritability, and nervousness, while about 10% of teenagers experience these symptoms every day. In response to the issues shown in the research, the research group suggests building a health education system that is organically integrated between the government, society, and families; Improve adolescent health literacy and carry out health promotion activities; Improve the health literacy of teachers and parents, create a healthy school environment and family atmosphere; Actively guide teenagers to establish scientific health concepts and advocate healthy lifestyles.
