A magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred in northern Afghanistan

The Ministry of National Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs of the Interim Government of Afghanistan said on the 21st that a magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred in Badakhshan province in northern Afghanistan that night, and it was felt in the capital Kabul and surrounding provinces. According to the Earthquake Information Network of the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 21:17 on the 21st of Kabul time (00:47 on the 22nd of Beijing time), with the epicenter located 40 kilometers south southeast of Jurm, Badakhshan Province, and the focal depth of 187.6 kilometers. In an interview with reporters from Xinhua News Agency, Aklami, head of the disaster management and humanitarian affairs department in Badakhshan Province, said that at present, seven houses in the province have been destroyed, and at least one person has been injured. A resident of neighboring Takhar province told Xinhua that many local houses collapsed in the earthquake. On June 22 last year, a strong earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, killing more than 1000 people and injuring nearly 2000. (Liao Xinshe)
