Cultural landscape on campus

In November, the south is still warm. On the campus of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) on the east lake, I can not only feel the youth, but also enjoy the beauty of the campus cultural landscape. Not long ago, this university just celebrated its 70th birthday. The heroic feeling of geological service for the country is not only shown on posters and banners on campus, but also on the faces of teachers and students. Through the Nanwangshan Tunnel of the campus, you can enter the North Campus. On an empty square, a majestic climbing sculpture is unforgettable. From a distance, the statue is tall and majestic. The upper part of the statue of climbers consists of five climbers, some holding geological hammers, and some holding the flag of the "mountaineering team". They looked at the distance with confidence in their eyes. The lower part of the sculpture is a stainless steel dome with modern style. The interior of the dome is equipped with acousto-optic devices. At night, the whole climbing sculpture looks "brilliant". The sculpture is 8.848 meters high, which is based on the height of Mount Everest, 8848.86 meters; The dome is 6.37 meters wide, which is derived from the earth's radius of 6371 kilometers, and fully integrates the elements of Mount Everest and the earth. China University of Geosciences is characterized by earth science. Every year, teachers and students have to carry out geological practice and geological investigation, and climbing mountains has become a basic work skill. From this perspective, the university has a natural connection with outdoor tourism and sports. Field geological work sites are often located in deep mountains, forests, rivers and seas. Many places are inaccessible, but they can see spectacular scenery that ordinary people can hardly see. Many teachers, students and alumni of this university have walked the longest road, climbed the highest mountain and seen the most beautiful scenery. From 2012 to 2016, the mountaineering scientific research team composed of teachers and students not only reached the summit of the world's seven continents, but also successfully crossed the poles of the Earth's north and south poles, brought back precious geological samples, and carried out subsequent scientific research. In April this year, Professor Chen Gang took his son, who was studying in college, to the top of Mount Everest. They not only collected geological samples, but also carried out mountain survey, writing a story about father and son climbing Mount Everest together and making scientific research together. The art of climbing sculpture shows the university's spirit of bravely climbing the peak and pursuing excellence. It shows that teachers and students not only climb the peak of nature, but also the peak of science and life. This sculpture is completely consistent with the temperament of this university. From time to time, students walked by the climbing sculpture, and some took out their mobile phones to take photos. In this way, a sculpture gradually becomes a kind of culture. If the climbing sculpture shows the courage of teachers and students to climb the peaks of nature, then another cultural landscape on the campus, the Academician Gallery, internalizes the climbing spirit into the belief that geology serves the country. The Academician Gallery is located on both sides of the central axis in front of the geological exploration building square in the west campus. It is a steel frame structure, like open books. Each "book" contains a portrait of the academicians. This university is known as the cradle of geological education in China. Over the past 70 years, nearly 70 academicians have emerged. These academicians are all famous "geological masters" in China. The first portrait in the academician gallery is Professor Feng Jinglan, who was selected as one of the first academic degree members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1957. He knows that mineral resources are sinking in national construction
