Munir Akram, Chairman in Office of the Group of 77 and China and Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency in New York recently that developing countries are facing multiple crises such as food shortage, climate change and lack of financing. The global development initiative proposed by Chinese leaders last year will help developing countries achieve development, so it is undoubtedly a timely rain for developing countries. Akram pointed out that many developing countries are troubled by food security, energy security and backward infrastructure, which must be solved through international cooperation. The Global Development Initiative has responded to these challenges and is fully consistent with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations and closely related to the direction of action that developing countries should take. In the past decade, China has historically solved the problem of absolute poverty. Akram believes that China's poverty reduction achievements are miracles in modern history, and China's global development initiative is very persuasive. Akram said that China always abides by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, upholds multilateralism and unswervingly advocates international cooperation. "Without international cooperation, no country can effectively address global challenges." On China's contribution to South South cooperation, Akram said that China provides practical support for the development of developing countries through practical cooperation projects. Taking Pakistan as an example, Pakistan has benefited greatly from the cooperation with China in building the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. Akram believes that the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind put forward by China provides a very important basis for international cooperation and will bring win-win results. "Promoting international cooperation on this basis is both for peace and development." (Liu Xinshe)
