May 22 is International Biodiversity Day. In order to better promote biodiversity conservation, this year, China will set up a number of new national parks in areas with important ecological locations and good ecological functions, such as the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, the Yellow River Basin and the Yangtze River Basin. This is what the reporter learned from the State Forestry and grassland administration on the 22nd. The relevant person in charge of the State Forestry and grass administration said that in recent years, China has systematically implemented the endangered species rescue project, effectively protected 90% of the typical terrestrial ecosystem types, and the wild population of more than 300 rare and endangered wild animals and plants has increased steadily. The wild population of giant panda has increased to 1864, the wild population of Crested Ibis has exceeded 6000, the wild population of Asian elephant has increased to about 300, and the wild population of Tibetan antelope has recovered to more than 300000. Milu deer and wild horses that once disappeared in the wild have established artificial breeding populations in many places, successfully released to nature, re established wild populations, and the survival area and scope have been expanding. China has built nearly 200 botanical gardens of all kinds at all levels, collecting and preserving more than 20000 species, accounting for 2 / 3 of China's flora. There are 206 species of rare and endangered plants in the wild, of which 112 are endemic to China. China has started the construction of natural reserve system and national botanical garden system with national parks as the main body, forming a relatively complete biodiversity protection system combining in-situ protection and ex situ protection. The person in charge said that in the next step, we will accelerate the construction of a nature reserve system with national parks as the main body in accordance with the overall goal of the construction plan for national parks and other nature reserves and major projects for wildlife protection (2021-2035). "We have prepared the spatial layout plan of the National Park. We will comprehensively consider the natural geographical pattern, ecological function pattern, biodiversity and typical landscape distribution characteristics, and select about 50 national park candidate areas, with a total area of about 10% of the land area, so as to effectively protect China's most representative ecosystem and more than 80% of the national key protected wildlife species and habitats." He said. (Xinhua News Agency)
