Popular science program reveals the breeding process of "national treasure"

2022-05-19

In the shenshuping base of China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Wolong, Sichuan Province, there is a "secret corner" - breeding Park, which is not open to the public. During the breeding period from July to September every year, there will be full of expectant giant panda mothers. Recently, the program "giant panda breeding is the first time for the audience to see the growth of giant pandas in Sichuan. Before the opening of the TV program" giant panda breeding base, it will be the first time for the audience. It is understood that the program lasted one year to track and shoot the baby pandas born in 2021 in shenshuping base, and recorded their birth, naming, growth and migration from 200g to 200kg in the form of "video diary", so as to let more viewers know the difficulty of giant panda breeding. The breeding of giant pandas, which have lived on the earth for at least 8 million years, was once a worldwide problem: low mating rate, low conception rate and low survival rate. Therefore, after years of unremitting efforts, the scientific researchers of China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center, Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base and other institutions have made major breakthroughs in the artificial breeding, reproduction and breeding of giant pandas, so that the captive giant panda population basically reaches the self-sustaining state of the population. The ultimate goal of artificial breeding is to let the giant panda go to the wild, return to its habitat and expand its wild population. To this end, the China Research Center for the protection of giant pandas launched the wild release of giant pandas, creatively implemented the training of "mother animals with cubs", successfully released 9 giant pandas in the wild and artificially bred, and achieved the important goal of artificially breeding giant pandas to survive in natural habitats and rejuvenate endangered small populations in the wild for the first time. In addition, the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center has carried out the research on the field introduction of captive giant pandas. Five trained captive female giant pandas were released into the field to participate in the introduction. Eight cubs were born and seven survived. The study solved the problem of insufficient genes in captive giant panda populations. (outlook new era)
