Russian military tests dedicated communication 'intranet' to replace 'telegram'

According to the website of the Russian newspaper "Izvestia" on September 2nd, Russia has developed a military specific communication software. It has passed battlefield testing and received positive feedback, and is currently being used on the battlefield. The software is completely decentralized: there are no servers or unified databases. This chat system can be used to share geographic location data and transmit specific information about the battlefield situation. According to reports, this software developed by the Loktar volunteer team combines tactical maps with a built-in combat communication system, enabling geographic data sharing, information dissemination, and transmission. A representative of the project explained to the News: "In the process of front line operations, it has become a necessary requirement to use communication software without access to the Internet or servers. So we have added this function to the software from the beginning, and we have also added the function of transmitting data between devices through various location-based service communication tools such as radio stations or internal WiFi. In this way, users of different communication channels can exchange data in the same chat room." This software has been tested on the battlefield. According to the developers, their team does not know how many people are using the software at this moment, as the system is completely decentralized and installation packages are distributed to various units, with the software usage determined by unit commanders. It can be installed on individual radios or electronic warfare systems, as well as on third-party devices. It only takes one or two days for a military unit to install and use this product, and there is no need for specialized training for users. Over time, representatives from the Russian Ministry of Defense, National Guard, and other special forces also joined the team to improve this product. On August 16th, a Russian soldier fired an anti tank gun in the Kursk border area. Experts point out that Russia has long needed a dedicated communication software to enable information transmission between military, security, and government agencies. Military expert Yuri Liamin told the "Message" newspaper, "In combat operations, many things depend on the transmission of information. The" Telegram "social platform is a good communication software, but all the information on it may be leaked to other countries. The arrest of" Telegram "founder Pavel Durov proves this... so this new product has prospects." Another military expert Vasily Dandkin told the "Message" newspaper that currently, the enemy's communication capabilities are better, at least they have "Starlink". Dandkin said, "There are special military operations now, and there is a war in the direction of Kursk, with many troops involved. Therefore, it is necessary to do everything possible to ensure that the communication system covers grassroots personnel." Dandkin finally said, "Good communication is an important factor in achieving victory and preserving the lives of soldiers on the battlefield." The developers of the software said that currently tactical troops widely use the "Telegram"+AlpineQuest (a map and navigation application) bundled software in the combat process. Soldiers not only use it to send text messages, but also coordinate strike operations and share intelligence within the unit and among different branches of the military. However, the risks posed by such non specialized and non military controlled communication software are increasing. So, as early as early 2023, Russian soldiers and war journalists who had participated in the Syrian conflict and special military operations proposed to the "For Victory" volunteer team to develop an alternative software product. The News previously reported that the "Gran" electronic reconnaissance system can monitor all frequencies used by drones and determine their orientation, and can also use various channels to quickly transmit information and data on the battlefield, which is achieved through built-in communication software. Researchers claim that one person can now complete tasks such as radio frequency analysis, identifying enemies, and sending target information to command centers in just a few minutes. This greatly improves the work efficiency of electronic warfare units and drone operators, and also ensures that civilian targets are not attacked by drones. At present, a factory in Russia has started mass production of the "Gran" electronic reconnaissance system. (New Society)
