The military and civilians celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Sichuan Tibet Military Station, Batang Military Station - "Today we eat 'Unity Bun'" Batang County is located in the western part of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and is known as the "Jiangnan Plateau, Hometown of Xianzi". Since its establishment in the 1960s, the Batang Military Station of the Sichuan Tibet Military Station has established a deep friendship with the local residents. The officers and soldiers of the Batang Military Station of the Sichuan Tibet Military Station, together with the resident villagers, made "Unity Buns". On August 13th, Batang Military Station celebrated its 60th anniversary of establishment. Early in the morning, Liu Dengbi, a villager in Kongdahuo Village, Xiaqiong Town, greeted the sisters in the same village and brought a big steaming pot and some fresh ingredients to the military station. They want to make a "Unity Bun" and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the military station with the officers and soldiers. In order to let the officers and soldiers eat "Tuanjie Steamed Bun" at noon, Liu Dengbi and his sisters were busy in a tense and orderly manner after work was divided. They knead flour and water into dough, put potatoes, pork belly, and pork ribs in a large bowl, sprinkle with onions, ginger, garlic, celery, and other ingredients. In no time, a large bowl of colorful, fragrant, and delicious baozi filling is prepared. After the dough wakes up, Liu Dengbi skillfully uses a rolling pin to roll the dough into a dough crust larger than the basin, puts the filling on it, wraps the dough crust, folds it into a circular shape step by step, and wraps it into a "Unity Bun" with a diameter of 50-60 centimeters, then carefully puts it into the basket. One steamer can only steam one steamed bun. Why did Liu Dengbi make the buns so big? Jiren Qucuo, Deputy Minister of the Propaganda Department of Batang County Committee, told me that this "Unity Steamed Bun" delicacy in Batang was originally called "Steamed Meat". In 1950, the Advance Detachment of the 18th Army of the People's Liberation Army marched into Jiefang Batang, Xikang Province. Wherever they went, discipline was strict and there were no violations. The local people sincerely admired the "Golden Pearl Mami". To express their gratitude for the "Golden Pearl Mami", the people of Batang, following the custom of entertaining distinguished guests, steamed precious "steamed meat" to entertain them. Due to the small size of the usual steamer, the number of steamed buns was limited. They borrowed a large steamer from the temple and steamed only one big bun per steamer, which was enough for many people to eat. To commemorate that unforgettable history and express the solidarity between Tibetan and Han people, as well as the unity of the military and civilians, the Tibetan people renamed "steamed meat" to "united buns". Since then, this tradition has continued to this day. During important festivals, the people of Batang make "Unity Buns" to comfort the stationed officers and soldiers. Let's have 'Unity Bun' for lunch today When Liu Dengbi and sisters carried the steaming "Tuanjie Steamed Bun" into the dining room, the officers and soldiers were jubilant. The military and civilians sat together, savoring the fragrant "Unity Baozi" and sweet butter tea, while enjoying the wonderful Batang Xianzi performance. The scene was full of joy. (New Society)
