What are the new perspectives of ChatGPT's father on artificial intelligence

2024-01-22

In Davos, Switzerland, Sam Altmann, CEO of the Open Artificial Intelligence Research Center (OpenAI) in the United States, is undoubtedly one of the hottest "stars". Ultraman is hailed as the "father of ChatGPT". In November 2022, OpenAI launched the big language model ChatGPT, sparking a wave of generative artificial intelligence. What are the latest views on artificial intelligence presented by Ultraman at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum recently? Will artificial intelligence reduce our focus on each other? In 1997, when IBM's artificial intelligence system "Deep Blue" defeated world chess champion Gary Kasparov, some commentators predicted that "this would be the end of chess", and no one would bother to watch or play chess thereafter. But to this day, "we are still very interested in what humans do, and almost no one watches two artificial intelligence games," said Ultraman. After reading his favorite book, his first thing is to understand the author's life, "I want to feel the connection with the person who resonates with me.". Altman said that humans are always getting better tools, but one thing remains unchanged: "Today we still pay close attention to each other.". Do we need to worry about artificial intelligence replacing human work? Altman believes that artificial intelligence will have a huge impact on human work. Nowadays, artificial intelligence has become an incredible productivity tool, but it has not yet replaced jobs on a scale that economists worry about. What other jobs can humans engage in? Using himself as an example, Ultraman said, "I am not an AI researcher, my role is to figure out what we will do, and then collaborate with others to achieve our goals." He believes that in the future, humans will work at higher levels of abstraction and gain more abilities. Is artificial intelligence regulation a good thing? Ultraman welcomes the implementation of regulation for artificial intelligence technology. He believes that adhering to high standards is a good thing for all parties in the development of artificial intelligence technology, and the technology industry has a responsibility to incorporate social opinions into decisions such as values and safety thresholds to ensure that benefits outweigh risks. Altman emphasized that "society and technology should develop together, and when building these (artificial intelligence) systems, they should be gradually developed through very strict feedback loops and route modifications, providing enormous value while meeting safety requirements.". The more challenging issue than technology, Altman pointed out, is that "iterative deployment" of artificial intelligence means that society can gradually adapt to this technology and allow "our institutions time to discuss how to regulate it.". Altman believes that GPT-3 and GPT-4 have made significant progress in aligning their values. But he believes that the more difficult question than technology is: who decides these values, what are the default values, and what are the boundaries? How does it operate in different countries? What can and cannot be done with it? "This is a major social issue," he said. Is AGI a "serious hazard"? General Artificial Intelligence (AGI) is an important research direction in artificial intelligence.
