A recent photo of Danish Ambassador to China, Kong Moke. Overseas website photo by Xie Ming: "I am very fascinated by countries with a long history." Danish Ambassador to China, Kong Moke, said in an interview with this newspaper that China has a 5000 year civilization history, and he still needs to "make up for" the knowledge about Chinese culture. He gave himself a Chinese name "Kong Moke". The surname Kong is very famous in China because Confucius was an ancient Chinese philosopher, politician, and educator. "Kong Moke said," Moke "refers to a person who is good at expressing themselves in language and writing, hoping to achieve" a person as their name suggests. Starting from his Chinese name, Kong Moke gained a preliminary understanding of Chinese characters, stating that cycling in Beijing is very convenient. He observed that Chinese characters are pictographic characters, and their shapes can depict vivid images, making it easier to understand their meanings. At the same time, Chinese characters are constantly changing, and it is indeed difficult to fully understand them. However, in the eyes of Kong Moke, this is precisely where their charm lies. Before arriving in China in August 2024, he served as the Danish Ambassador to France and personally experienced the Paris Olympics. There, Kong Moke met with the famous Danish badminton player and Paris Olympic badminton men's singles champion Anseyron. Ansilong is self-taught and can speak fluent Chinese. An Sailong and Kong Moke talked about the opportunity to learn Chinese - he often travels in Asia, and China particularly fascinates him, which also gives him more insights into life. Therefore, Kong Moke thought, "Why don't you have more knowledge about China?" After coming to China, Kong Moke felt both unfamiliar and familiar. Firstly, he was shocked by the size of the city of Beijing. He stated that Denmark has a total population of approximately 6 million, while China has many cities with a population exceeding 6 million. Cycling is a traditional mode of transportation in Denmark, and he is delighted to be able to travel by bike in Beijing. Cycling in Beijing is very convenient, and I ride my bike very frequently, "Kong Moke said. Many roads in Beijing are specifically divided into bicycle lanes and motor vehicle lanes, and" urban design should balance mobility and livability. The two countries can learn from each other. There are many differences between Denmark and China, and the two countries can learn from each other, "said Kong Moke. In Beijing, one thing that caught his attention was the electric cars scattered throughout the streets and alleys. He found that in cities with the same population density as Beijing in other countries, there are often many cars and loud noise, while Beijing is very quiet. This is a huge leap in the quality of life, "said Kong Moke. Not only in Beijing, but also in other major cities in China, electric vehicles are quite popular. In 2024, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China will both exceed 12 million units. Under the guidance of policies, more and more people are choosing new energy vehicles, which has become a trend in China. Kong Moke praised that regulatory and incentive policies are very important in the field of new energy, which is currently an important topic for Denmark and China to negotiate and cooperate on. Nowadays, there are also many electric cars on the streets of Denmark, accounting for about half of the new car sales market in Denmark. Kong Moke introduced that Denmark has rich experience in green transformation. Denmark is one of the earliest countries in the world to develop wind power, and currently over 60% of Denmark's electricity consumption comes from variable renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. Denmark is willing to share its experience in green development, and China has made rapid progress in this field, which shows that we have a common goal on climate issues. Kong Moke said that in recent years, new attempts at green cooperation between Denmark and China have been making steady progress. In 2023, the "Denmark China Green Joint Work Plan" was signed to further consolidate and deepen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as climate and environment, water resources, food and agriculture, maritime affairs, and health. After arriving in China, Kong Moke visited a Danish brewery in Guangzhou, Guangdong, which saved a lot of groundwater in the beer production process. He stated that Denmark hopes to cooperate with China in the use, recycling, and wastewater treatment of water resources. Kong Moke also participated in the series of themed forums of the 2024 Annual Meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development. Recalling the situation at that time, he said that sitting with researchers from China and Europe to discuss environmental issues was very inspiring, because everyone hoped to protect the Earth, the common and only home of humanity. "As long as we help each other and move in the right direction, we can achieve this goal. Kong Moke, a promoter of mutual benefit and win-win between Europe and China, introduced that currently, China is Denmark's largest trading partner in Asia, with a total trade volume of 15.46 billion US dollars in goods between the two countries in 2024. The pragmatic cooperation between Denmark and China has yielded fruitful results. China's 30 day visa free policy towards Denmark can further facilitate friendly exchanges between the two peoples. Denmark was one of the earliest Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with New China, and 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark. Kong Moke said that although the international environment was complex at that time, it was very natural for the two countries to establish diplomatic relations in 1950. The friendship between Denmark and China can be traced back hundreds of years. As early as the 17th century, there were trade relations between Denmark and China. In 2008, Danzhong established a comprehensive strategic partnership. I am looking forward to commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Denmark and China, "said Kong Moke." This is an important opportunity for the two countries to strengthen cooperation, resolve differences, and discuss the future together. Denmark also hopes to work together with China to tackle global challenges. 2025 is also the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Europe, and China Europe relations have strategic significance and global influence. Kongmo Ke stated that Denmark will assume the rotating presidency of the European Union from July 1, 2025. During its presidency of the European Union, Denmark is willing to provide a platform for dialogue between China and the EU. For Denmark, dialogue has always been positive. Our goal for 2025 is mutual benefit, and Denmark will be a powerful promoter of mutual benefit between Europe and China, "said Kong Moke. (New Society)
