China has made new breakthroughs in reusable carrier rocket engine technology
2025-03-19
On March 18th, it was learned from the Sixth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation that the reusable carrier rocket developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation Commercial Rocket Co., Ltd. recently completed the second stage power system test, and the test was a complete success, marking a new breakthrough in reusable carrier rocket engine technology in China's commercial aerospace industry. It is reported that the YF-102 series vacuum version YF-102V engine used in the second stage power system test was developed by Shaanxi Aerospace Commercial Engine Co., Ltd. The YF-102V open cycle liquid oxygen kerosene high-altitude engine is applied to the second stage of low-cost medium launch vehicles, with multiple starting and bidirectional swing functions. It has the advantages of high performance, high thrust to mass ratio, and high cost-effectiveness, and can provide low-cost large-scale space entry capability, with dual advantages of economy and reliability. In this test mission, the engine performed perfectly, achieving effective assessment of multiple engine starts, multiple ignitions, wide range changes in inlet parameters, and long-term pre cooling adaptability. The research team accelerated technological breakthroughs through an innovative model of "low cost+fast iteration", and after two and a half years, overcame more than ten technical difficulties. At present, the YF-102V engine is ready for delivery and is expected to perform its first commercial flight mission this year. (New Society)
