Open the food safety reporting system to make every day "3.15"

2025-03-17

The National Food Safety Reporting System is expected to become an important channel connecting internal supervision and departmental supervision in the food industry. Around March 15th this year, many well-known brands were exposed to have serious food safety issues. Whether it is the "Yang Mingyu Huang braised chicken rice kitchen chaos" exposed by the New Beijing News, the low-priced "fake yogurt" problem, or the Xiaolongkan hotpot chaos exposed by Hubei Economic Television, all indicate that although food safety issues have been widely concerned and have always been a key area of supervision and rectification, they are still chronic problems that need to be solved. On the evening of March 15th, the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation announced that in order to further smooth the internal reporting channels of food production and operation enterprises and centralized dining units, encourage and guide food practitioners and related personnel to actively report food safety violations and major risk hazards, fully play the role of social governance, and effectively protect the "safety on the tongue" of the people, the State Administration for Market Regulation has developed the "National Food Safety Reporting System", which will be officially launched in May. In September 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced that internal whistleblowers of food production and operation enterprises that meet the reward criteria will be rewarded. The upcoming launch of the 'National Food Safety Reporting System' is a specialized and high-level internal reporting channel set up by national regulatory authorities, undoubtedly sending a clear signal to society to 'maintain food safety'. The upcoming 'National Food Safety Reporting System', according to current reports, is mainly aimed at food practitioners and related personnel, mainly to facilitate internal reporting channels. This has practical significance for improving food safety protection and regulatory mechanisms. While establishing a sound internal whistleblower system, supervision should be integrated into the production process of food enterprises, forcing them to operate in a standardized manner through regular supervision and timely reporting. On the one hand, this national reporting system specifically targeting the field of "food safety" breaks away from geographical restrictions and lowers the threshold for reporting and safeguarding rights; On the other hand, it reduces the risk of information leakage for whistleblowers to a certain extent and further reduces the possibility of retaliation against whistleblowers. In addition, this is equivalent to upgrading every reported clue, and the regulatory authorities will have a more direct and effective follow-up investigation of the clues. In the long run, the smooth operation of internal reporting channels can timely fill loopholes and restore public trust in the food industry, which is also a necessary response to the public's goal of "making every day '3.15'". As an important supervisory force beyond departmental supervision, media supervision, and public supervision, internal supervision can actually play a greater role. But internal supervision must have timely response and cooperation from departmental supervision forces, and the "National Food Safety Reporting System" is expected to become an important channel connecting internal supervision and departmental supervision. Of course, this system has not yet been launched. In the preparation stage, it is also advisable to actively collect professional opinions and public suggestions to further clarify the reporting process and do a good job in basic work such as confidentiality of whistleblower information. More importantly, regulatory authorities must establish an efficient mechanism for checking and providing feedback on leads. I believe that with the launch of the "National Food Safety Reporting System", not only will it help to create a daily supervision pressure on the food industry of "3.15 every day", but the national level food safety supervision mechanism will also be further improved, effectively safeguarding the public's "safety on the tongue".
