Communication | Using the "Luban Spirit" to maintain the oasis on the banks of the Tigris River in Iran
2024-07-26
The Tigris River, which has been running for thousands of years, meanders southward and draws a "several" curve in the capital city of Iraqi province, Kut. In this' arm bend ', sits Iraq's first post-war foreign energy cooperation project - the Ahdab oil field. This is a green plant in the Ahdab oil field camp captured on June 30th in Wasit Province, Iraq. Xinhua News Agency (Photo by Khalil Dawood) In the scorching summer of July, a group of reporters walked into the oil field camp and saw rows of date palm trees standing tall, with branches covered in green fruits, and desert red willows full of vitality. It is hard to imagine that this was once a saline mudflat. The Ahdab Oilfield project started construction in 2009 and was put into operation in 2011. As an oilfield operator, China Oasis Petroleum Company has been rooted here since 2009. Jiang Ming, the general manager of the company, told reporters that the company adheres to the ecological development concept of "green mountains and clear waters are as valuable as mountains of gold and silver". While focusing on increasing oil reserves and production, the company also protects the local clear waters and blue sky. Iraq has abundant oil and gas resources, but there is serious waste. Due to factors such as large initial investment, long cycle, and incomplete gas transmission pipelines, most oil fields in Iraq directly burn the associated gas generated during the extraction process through torches. A statistical report released by the World Bank in 2023 shows that Iraq wastes up to 17 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. This is a corner of the Ahdab oil field central processing station captured on June 28th in Wasit Province, Iraq. At the end of 2011, the main project of the Ahdab Oilfield Central Processing Station was completed, becoming Iraq's first joint station to achieve full coverage of oil, gas, and water treatment processes. Hardy Obed, the head of the oilfield production management department, told reporters that the associated gas separated during crude oil processing is desulfurized, dehydrated, and dehydrogenated in the central processing station, and processed to produce sulfur, dry gas, and liquefied petroleum gas. At present, the Ahdab Oilfield has produced over 5 billion cubic meters of dry gas, more than 600000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas, and approximately 18500 tons of sulfur, which not only avoids resource waste but also effectively protects the ecological environment. The dry gas produced by the central processing station not only meets the power generation needs of the oilfield's self owned power station, but also supplies electricity for oilfield production and daily life. It is also exported to the largest thermal power plant in Iraq, the Huashide Power Plant, to ensure local and capital Baghdad's power supply. All sulfur and liquefied petroleum gas produced through separation and processing are also provided to the Iranian side for use. This is a photo taken on June 28th of sulfur produced at the Ahdab Oilfield Central Processing Station in Wasit Province, Iraq. In addition, the production wastewater from the Ahdab oil field has also been recycled and reused. The "produced water" separated during crude oil processing is settled and filtered by the sewage treatment system, and after meeting relevant standards, it is injected back into the ground to supplement formation pressure and form an injection production cycle, effectively maintaining the sustainable development conditions of the oilfield. The domestic sewage generated by the oilfield camp is purified by the sewage treatment plant designed and constructed by Oasis Petroleum Company, and then used for greening irrigation. The dry powder residue generated during the purification process is collected and processed into fertilizer. The efforts made by Chinese enterprises for the green development of Iraq's oil and gas industry have been fully recognized by both China and Iraq. The Ahdab Oilfield Ground Construction Project was awarded the 2014-2015 China Construction Engineering Luban Award (Overseas Engineering) honor. Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani said that the Ahdab oil field has set a benchmark for the green development of Iraq's energy industry. On June 28th, staff were working at the Ahdab Oil Field Central Processing Station in Wasit Province, Iraq. Xinhua News Agency (photo by Khalil Dawood) Jiang Ming told reporters that in the past 15 years, Oasis Oil Company has not only brought more than 20 billion US dollars in revenue to Iraq, but also introduced advanced agricultural technology from China to the local area, planted more than 10000 trees, and planted more than 100 acres of forests, achieving coordinated development of economic and ecological benefits. Generation after generation of 'oasis people' have used the 'Luban spirit' to root and sprout the concept of green development on the banks of the Tigris River, and to cultivate an ecological oasis in saline alkali land
