OpenAI: Delaying the release of voice assistants to ensure better handling of user requests

2024-06-27

The Open Artificial Intelligence Research Center (OpenAI) announced on the 25th that it has postponed the release of the ChatGPT voice assistant feature to ensure it can safely and effectively handle massive user requests. OpenAI issued a statement on the same day, stating that it had originally planned to open the voice assistant feature to ChatGPT paying users on a small scale by the end of June, but it is now determined that it will still take another month to "reach the release threshold.". The company said in a statement, "We are enhancing the ability of big models to identify and reject certain content. We are also working to improve user experience, expanding infrastructure to millions of users while maintaining real-time response." Bloomberg News commented that OpenAI is striving to stay ahead in the increasingly crowded field of artificial intelligence, and this delayed release indicates that the company may face setbacks. OpenAI said it plans to release the voice assistant feature to all paying users this autumn, and is also working on releasing the video and other features to be displayed in May. It will inform users of the release time of the relevant features in the future.
