Protecting and inheriting this historical and cultural heritage is our common responsibility. We hope that you will continue to work hard for a long time to protect the Great Wall, carry forward its culture, tell its stories, drive more people to understand and protect the Great Wall, pass on the precious wealth left by our ancestors from generation to generation, and contribute to building a socialist cultural power and promoting Chinese path to modernization. The Great Wall is the largest existing cultural heritage in China. In 1984, leaders such as Deng Xiaoping and Xi Zhongxun wrote an inscription for the "Love China and Build the Great Wall" campaign initiated by some units in the capital, which stimulated the enthusiasm of Chinese people at home and abroad to protect the Great Wall. Recently, villagers from Shixia Village at the foot of the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing wrote a letter to General Secretary Xi, reporting on their spontaneous participation in the protection of the Great Wall and the development and changes in the village, expressing their determination to continue to protect the Great Wall and inherit its culture.
