On the 14th, the 2024 Global Prosperity Summit held five thematic discussions in Hong Kong. Business leaders, academic leaders from around the world, as well as representatives from think tanks and investment institutions, delved into the most urgent issues affecting global prosperity, and reached a universal consensus to strengthen civil diplomacy and promote people to people communication. "Global prosperity is crucial for our future, so we have decided to hold this summit to promote the determination of the international community to promote prosperity," said Ye Liu Shuyi, the initiator and chairman of the Hui Xian Think Tank, in her speech. She said that currently, the impact of protectionist policies is constantly expanding, the environment for free trade and investment is being eroded, polarization and political violence are gradually rising. Attendees stated that Hong Kong, backed by its motherland and connected to the world, has unique advantages under the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, and can play the role of a "super contact" in both the economic field and civil diplomacy. The President of the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Amat, stated that Hong Kong's uniqueness lies in its ability to attract global talent, businesses, and investors. At this summit, representatives from various fields around the world openly discussed important issues affecting the global economy, which helps to create a stable and predictable business environment and further enhance investor confidence. Experts attending the meeting believe that Hong Kong can open up a civil diplomacy situation through multiple channels and fields. Xu Liping, a researcher at the Asia Pacific and Global Strategy Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and director of the Southeast Asia Research Center, said that Hong Kong has close economic and trade ties with ASEAN, which is of great significance for the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road". At the same time, Hong Kong is a place where Eastern and Western cultures intersect, serving as a link between China and ASEAN countries, deepening understanding and mutual trust, and promoting people to people communication. Yang Jiemian, Director of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Shanghai Institute of International Studies, stated that Hong Kong can fully leverage the power of non-governmental organizations to extensively engage in civil diplomacy in areas such as economy, culture, education, sports, and religion. Roger Koenberg, winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, believes that the scientific community in Hong Kong has great international appeal and looks forward to further opening the door to scientific cooperation in Hong Kong. He welcomes scientists from around the world to come to Hong Kong for research. The 2024 Global Prosperity Summit is jointly organized by the Hong Kong Global Prosperity Summit, the Hui Xian Think Tank Policy Research Center, and the Shanghai Institute of International Studies. It is the first international forum in Hong Kong that focuses on discussing geopolitical issues among the public. On the 15th, a Youth Leaders Forum will also be held, bringing together visionary young entrepreneurs, senior managers, and scholars from the Asian region to jointly explore future global economic development and opportunities.
