The first million kilowatt offshore wind power project in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area has been fully completed and put into operation

2023-12-13

The 1 million kilowatt offshore wind farm at Huizhou Port of China General Nuclear Corporation was fully connected to the grid on December 12th, with an annual power generation of about 3 billion kilowatt hours. This marks the full completion and operation of the first million kilowatt offshore wind power project in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. The 1 million kilowatt offshore wind farm at the Huizhou Port of China General Nuclear Corporation will be constructed in two phases, with a total of 104 offshore wind turbines installed. The first phase of the 250000 kilowatt project started construction on December 13, 2020, and was fully connected to the grid on December 28, 2021; The second phase of the 750000 kilowatt project started construction on March 15, 2023, and was officially put into operation on December 12, 2023. According to Gao Ligang, General Manager of China National Nuclear Corporation, the offshore wind farm can provide Guangdong Province with approximately 3 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually, effectively reducing standard coal consumption by about 1 million tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 2.35 million tons, equivalent to planting 6750 hectares of trees and forests. It will provide clean energy support for the economic and social development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and the implementation of the national "dual carbon" strategy. Li Yilun, Deputy General Manager of CGN, introduced that the project has innovatively developed a deep-water jacket foundation with a new transitional section structure, successfully solving the key problems in the design of the foundation structure system for large MW offshore wind turbines, and adopting various high-capacity new wind turbines, achieving technological progress in various aspects. As one of the earliest energy companies in China to enter the offshore wind power industry, China National Nuclear Corporation (CGN) has cumulatively put into operation 2.8 million kilowatts of offshore wind power in Guangdong, distributed in Yangjiang, Huizhou, Shanwei and other places.
