This summer vacation, there has been a surge in the flow of family visits, tourism, and business. The popularity of Hong Kong people heading north has skyrocketed, surpassing the number of mainland tourists heading south. According to statistics from the Hong Kong Immigration Department, from July 1 to August 29, more than 9 million Hong Kong people have entered Shenzhen, with a total population of 7.332 million. This means that during this summer vacation, on average, each Hong Kong person entered Shenzhen 1.2 times. The number of mainland and other passengers arriving at Hong Kong from the south was 5.33 million. From the resumption of customs clearance between mainland China and Hong Kong in January of this year to the implementation of the "Hong Kong car northbound" policy, while mainland tourists are crowding over the "shopping paradise" of Hong Kong, the popularity of Hong Kong people's "northbound" consumption continues to rise. Cross border flows are showing a trend of "two-way travel". The trend of pedestrian flow reflects the deep integration and acceleration of the consumption, lifestyle, cultural, and business circles in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Cross border passenger and vehicle flows have surged, and Hong Kong passengers have become the "new traffic king" in mainland China. "From Admiralty Station, you can take the subway to Luohu Port in an hour. Shenzhen Metro Line 1 directly leads to Dongmen Old Street. On Friday, you can go to Shenzhen for a barbecue, and you can even come back to Hong Kong that night." said Wu Junjie, a white-collar worker working in Xianggang. This summer, Hong Kong tourists have become the "new king of traffic" in the mainland, and the "say go" mainland travel on weekends has gradually become normalized. According to the statistics of Shenzhen Huanggang Entry Exit Border Inspection Station, from July 1st to August 31st, more than 10.88 million people entered and exited through Shenzhen Huanggang, Futian Port, and Futian Free Trade Zone Channel 1. The highest peak recorded at the station was over 257000 people on August 12th, with over 144000 people entering. In August alone, benefiting from fast customs clearance and convenient transportation, Futian Port has repeatedly set multiple records for the highest daily inbound and outbound passenger flow for three consecutive Saturdays. And the continuous increase is not only in the flow of people passing customs, but also in the flow of vehicles passing customs. Since the implementation of the "Hong Kong Car North" policy for two months, it has continued to be popular. The Zhuhai Border Inspection Station announced on August 31st that from July 1st to August 30th, the number of inbound and outbound passengers passing through the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge exceeded 3 million, and the number of inbound and outbound vehicles reached 550000, an increase of 47.8% and 266% compared to the same period in 2019, both of which were at the highest level in the history of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge since its opening. The radius of life has expanded, the distance between time and space has shortened, and driving north has gradually become a new way of leisure for Hong Kong and Macau car owners. Subsequently, "cross-border consumption" continues to rise. According to data from the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Statistics, Shenzhen's consumption recovery was strong in the first half of this year. From January to July this year, the total retail sales of consumer goods in Shenzhen reached 587.066 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.0%. Among them, there is no shortage of consumption assistance from Hong Kong residents who are heading north. According to the latest statistics from the Hong Kong Immigration Department, over 4.68 million Hong Kong residents traveled north in July alone, with an estimated consumption amount of HKD 4 billion. While Hong Kong tourists are flocking to the mainland for consumption, mainland tourists are still the main force for visiting Hong Kong. On August 11th, the Hong Kong Tourism Development Board released data showing that there were approximately 16.5 million visitors to Hong Kong in the first seven months of this year, of which approximately 13.08 million were from mainland China. Behind cross-border consumption, there is a market
