Dai Bing, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations: China adheres to sharing development opportunities with the world

2023-08-31

On the 30th, Dai Bing, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, delivered a speech at the second regular session of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Population Fund, and United Nations Office for Project Services in 2023, expressing China's commitment to sharing development opportunities with the world. Dai Bing said that currently, multiple global crises are intertwined and stacked. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has been implemented in half, but overall progress is far from expected. Developing countries urgently need the support of United Nations development agencies, including UNDP. China appreciates the integration of public and private sector resources by the Development Agency to launch innovative solutions in areas such as the blue economy, clean energy, and digital finance, enhance the sustainable financing capacity of developing countries, promote poverty reduction, and promote equality. China is highly concerned about the shortage of development resources faced by UNDP and calls on traditional donor countries to effectively fulfill their funding contract commitments and climate funding commitments, and increase core resource contributions. I hope that UNDP will continue to strengthen partnership building, promote cooperation with international financial institutions, and continue to support South-South and triangular cooperation. Dai Bing said that China adheres to sharing development opportunities with the world, and has proposed and effectively implemented global development initiatives. In the past two years, the number of practical cooperation projects proposed has exceeded 100. At the recently concluded 15th BRICS Leaders' Meeting, China announced that Chinese financial institutions will soon launch a special fund of $10 billion specifically for implementing global development initiatives. This will strongly support countries in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals. China looks forward to working closely with UNDP and member countries within the framework of the Global Development Initiative to jointly address development challenges and not let any country or individual fall behind.
