Approaching the Chahai Site and Tracing the Ancient Chinese Civilization
2023-08-03
Where did the earliest dragon worship of the Chinese nation come from? What is the new height of civilization reflected behind the world's first real jade? What kind of source of Chinese civilization was bred in the Xiliao River River basin 8000 years ago? Not long ago, the first Chahai Forum was held in Fuxin City, Liaoning Province, with the theme of "Light of Eight Thousand Year Xiliao River Civilization". More than 40 industry experts from the Archaeological Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese Archaeological Society and other cultural and museum archaeological institutions gathered together to discuss the important discoveries of the Chahai site, explore the historical value behind the cultural relics and relics, and look for the dawn of civilization that spans thousands of years. "Shidui Dragon" - the oldest and largest dragon image found in archaeology. In 1982, in Zhahai Village, north of Sala Town, Fuxin Mongol Autonomous County, Liaoning Province, archaeologists found an important cultural site of the early Neolithic Age - "Chahai Site" 8000 years ago. With the continuous deepening of archaeological excavations, the discovery of a "stone pile dragon" with a length of 19.7 meters and a width of 1.8-2 meters has made the Chahai site a focus of attention in the academic community. Although the Chahai Site has been discovered for over 40 years, more and more experts and scholars are fascinated by it, and important achievements are constantly emerging. At first, archaeologists discovered two 'dragon like pottery pieces' at the Chahai site, one with a curled tail and the other with a coiled dragon body, accompanied by scale like decorations. However, because they were local fragments, they did not receive corresponding attention at that time. "Guo Dashun, Executive Director of the Chinese Archaeological Society and Honorary Dean of the Liaoning Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, said at the Chahai Forum, "The 'Shidui Dragon' discovered later, with its head, neck, body, scale, claw and tail clearly arranged, and its front part and lower part piled up with stones to form a foot like and cloud like backdrop, is the oldest and largest dragon image found in Neolithic archaeology in China so far, which has attracted wide attention from the academic community." Professor, Southern University of Science and Technology, who has been studying the Chahai site in depth Gao Dalun, former director of the Sichuan Archaeological Research Institute, believes that the most important discovery at the Chahai site is the "Shidui Dragon". It is not only a realistic pile of sculptures, but also a spiritual support for the ancestors of Chahai. Its existence serves as a powerful example of the dragon worship carried out by the ancestors of Chahai as early as 8000 years ago, and is of great significance for the origin of Chinese civilization 5000 years ago and the exploration of early Chinese civilization. From the excavation of two "dragon like pottery pieces" to the appearance of the "stone pile dragon", the discovery of the Chahai site seems to inform people of the true meaning of the dragon. Director of the Fuxin Chahai Site Museum Researcher Li Jingyan told reporters, "The large dragon body of the 'Shidui Dragon' represents the powerful image of Chahai. They added a part of the conquered tribe's totem to their own dragon totem, gradually forming various animal images such as camel heads, deer horns, eagle claws, and carp bodies on the main body of the Chinese dragon. Ultimately, the dragon has evolved into a symbol of the Chinese nation, deeply imprinted in the hearts of every Chinese person The ancestors of Chahai were good at recognizing jade and were even better at using it. How can they accurately distinguish jade without artificial strong light? This difficult problem was solved by the ancestors of Chahai 8000 years ago.
