The BRICS New Development Bank, headquartered in Shanghai, announced on the evening of the 20th that the bank has issued its first green bond denominated in US dollars. The bond issued this time is a 3-year green bond with a scale of 1.25 billion US dollars. This bond is another active financing measure taken by New Development Bank in the international capital market, reflecting the bank's positive willingness to promote sustainable development of the capital market. According to the plan, the funds raised by this bond will provide financing or refinancing support for eligible green projects. Leslie Masdorp, the vice president and chief financial officer of the New Development Bank, said that the bank has a lot of green and sustainable projects in all member countries. Next, the bank will continue to expand its investment in green and other fields. The overall strategy of the New Development Bank for 2022-2026 proposes that 40% of the funds will be used to slow down the process of climate change between 2022 and 2026. The New Development Bank is jointly initiated by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, aiming to mobilize resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging economies such as the BRICS and developing countries, and as a multilateral and regional financial institution, to contribute to global growth and development. In 2021, the New Development Bank launched an expansion to include Bangladesh, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Uruguay as new member states. (New News Agency)
