South Korea removed indoor masks after 27 months, excluding some high-risk places

2023-01-30

According to Yonhap news agency, the South Korean government has lifted the obligation to wear masks indoors since the 30th local time, with the exception of some places at high risk of epidemic infection such as public transportation vehicles and medical institutions. According to the South Korean Central Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, the government only recommended that people wear masks indoors from the same day, and no longer required them. As a result, the South Korean "mask order" was completely lifted after more than 27 months. According to the new regulations, people can take off their masks in public gathering places such as large supermarkets, department stores, shopping centers, and educational facilities such as schools and cram schools at all levels. There is no need to wear masks at public transport stations, sports facilities, nursing homes and other places. The indoor "mask order" will continue to be maintained in hospitals and high-risk facilities, but it will not be mandatory to wear masks in single wards and private spaces. Places where the obligation to wear masks indoors will continue to be maintained include medical institutions, pharmacies, high-risk places, public transport carriages, etc. High-risk places include convalescent facilities, mental health facilities, welfare facilities for the disabled, etc; Public transport includes subways, buses, trains, passenger ships, chartered cars, taxis, flights, etc. The Korean epidemic prevention department allows local governments and facilities to develop guidelines and continue to maintain the order of indoor masks, but the agencies should inform the public to avoid confusion. In addition, the Korean epidemic prevention department also strongly recommends wearing masks in the following five situations: having symptoms of COVID-19 infection or having contact with people with suspected symptoms; COVID-19 high risk population or contact with high risk population; Close contact personnel with COVID-19 in recent two weeks; In the "three secrets" (closed, dense and tight) place; When they are in a crowded place where there are shouting, singing, dialogue and other behaviors that generate flying foam.
