Baihetan "West East Power Transmission" artery has been completed and put into operation

2022-12-30

The Baihetan Zhejiang ± 800kV UHV DC transmission project (hereinafter referred to as the Baizhe Project) was completed and put into operation on the 30th, marking the completion and operation of the Baihetan Hydropower Station power transmission channel project. Huang Yong, deputy director of the ultra-high voltage department of the State Grid, said that the Baizhe Project is a national key project of "power transmission from west to east", one of the main power transmission channels of Baihetan Hydropower Station, the second largest hydropower station in China's installed capacity, and a key project to help ensure power supply in eastern China. Starting from Butuo County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and ending in Linping District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, the Baizhe Project passes through five provinces, including Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Anhui and Zhejiang. The total length of the line is 2121km, just like a serpentine dragon, crossing mountains and seas, connecting the west and east, and sending clean hydropower from Baihetan to the eastern coastal areas of China. The "West East Power Transmission" artery of Baihetan includes two ultra-high voltage projects, Baihetan Jiangsu and Baihetan Zhejiang. Previously, on July 1, 2022, the Baihetan Jiangsu Project was completed and put into operation. The operation of Baizhe Project marks the completion of the power transmission project of Baihetan Hydropower Station. Huang Yong said that these two ultra-high voltage projects can transmit more than 60 billion kilowatt hours to East China every year, replace 27 million tons of coal, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 49 million tons. When the project is completed and put into operation, it coincides with the critical moment of ensuring the power supply in the winter. It will strongly support East China to cope with the peak of winter power load, enhance the power grid's ability to help each other with water and fire, effectively meet the medium - and long-term power energy demand in East China, and ensure economic development and people's livelihood electricity demand. Sichuan is rich in hydropower resources. Baihetan Hydropower Station is located in the main stream of Jinsha River in Sichuan, with an installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts, second only to the Three Gorges Power Station. Among them, eight million kilowatt units will be built on the left bank and eight million kilowatt units will be built on the right bank to power Jiangsu and Zhejiang respectively. Up to now, the State Grid has delivered more than 3 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity through the ultra-high voltage power grid, which is equivalent to reducing 1.35 billion tons of coal for power generation, 2.44 billion tons of carbon dioxide, 24 million tons of sulfur dioxide and 21.15 million tons of nitrogen oxides.
