The second World Food Forum was opened in Rome, Italy, on the 17th. It aims to promote youth participation, seek investment for vulnerable countries, and strengthen the application of science and technology in promoting the transformation of the agricultural food system in order to cope with the growing global food crisis. The five-day forum, hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), will be held online and offline. This forum continues the previous youth led approach. The main activities include the Global Youth Forum, the FAO Science and Innovation Forum, and the FAO "Hand in Hand" Investment Forum. Qu Dongyu, Director General of FAO, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, emphasizing the outstanding and innovative role that youth can play. He said that young people are making efforts to make diverse voices and lead practical actions. FAO data show that the current global food security situation is facing multiple threats. Persistent diseases such as the climate crisis and long-term conflicts have not been resolved. The ongoing COVID-19 epidemic has triggered a series of chain reactions, compounded by soaring inflation and soaring food, feed, fuel, fertilizer and energy prices, which have further worsened the situation. According to the latest edition of FAO's Report on World Food Security and Nutrition, the number of hungry people in the world will reach 828 million in 2021, and 3.1 billion people will be unable to afford healthy meals.
