The latest research results: normal high blood pressure, no other serious diseases do not need to take antihypertensive drugs

2022-05-13

"For people whose blood pressure is lower than 140 / 90mmHg, is it necessary to control blood pressure through antihypertensive drugs to prevent or reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases? This is not only a simple change in diagnosis and treatment norms, but also whether it can bring benefits to human health." On May 12, an authoritative answer was given to the research results release of antihypertensive treatment and placebo-controlled clinical trial (SINOM) for Chinese people with normal high blood pressure without cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, diabetes and nephropathy. This study is not only the largest clinical study of normal high blood pressure in the world, but also the only study of hard endpoint of normal high blood pressure. The study found that among the Chinese population aged 45-79 years old, with blood pressure in the normal high range, more than one cardiovascular disease risk factor, and no cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, kidney disease or diabetes, taking antihypertensive drugs will not reduce the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease; Nor does it increase or reduce the risk of other cardiovascular diseases, renal impairment, tumors, and all-cause death; The above results were similar in different antihypertensive drug groups (ARB, diuretics, reserpine compound preparation). This study shows that the blood pressure is within the normal high value range, and it is not recommended to take antihypertensive drugs in individuals who have not suffered from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, kidney disease, tumor and other serious diseases. At the same time, the study also suggests that it may be the best choice for individuals with blood pressure in the normal high range to control blood pressure through a healthy lifestyle. SINOM's research results support the recommendations in the current guidelines for hypertension management of China, the World Health Organization and other international organizations: individuals who have not suffered from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, kidney disease and other serious diseases should control their blood pressure through a healthy lifestyle if their blood pressure is in the range of 130-139 / 80-89mmhg! In the review of research results, Professor Liu Lisheng, lifelong honorary chairman of China hypertension alliance, director of China normal high value clinical trial research project and leader of the collaboration group, believed that the research results were of great significance and provided evidence-based evidence for clinically controversial issues such as whether the threshold of hypertension treatment should be lowered and a larger population should be included in the treatment scope.
